Frequently Asked Questions

What is Botox®?

Botox is the trade name of the prescription only medicine – Botulinum Toxin Type A.  It has been used safely as a muscle relaxant for more than thirty years.

How does Botox® work?

Botox® temporarily relaxes the muscles underneath the skin, which in turn smooths the wrinkles on the surface of the skin.

What areas can be treated?

The forehead

Between the eyes

The sides of the eyes (commonly known as crow’s feet)

Is the procedure painful?

Not at all.  You will be aware of a slight scratch or pin prick with each injection.  The needles used are very fine.  You may be a little tender straight after the injections, but most clients report no problems at all.  You will notice an improvement in your fine lines and wrinkles within 4 days.  This will continue to improve up to 14 days after your treatment.

How long will the effects last?

Results vary from person to person.  Most clients return every 5 months for a repeat treatment.  We suggest between 4 and 6 months is the average length of the effects of treatment.

Are there any side effects?

This procedure is very well tolerated by our clients.  Side effects are usually rare, but can include slight bruising at the site of the injections.  Some clients may notice a mild headache in the first 24 hours which can be treated with your normal analgesia.

Can anyone have Botox®?

You cannot have Botox® injections when you are pregnant or breastfeeding.  The doctor will discuss any underlying medical conditions which you may have which may prevent you having treatment.

Aftercare

For the first 24 hours we suggest you keep your facial muscles active.  This will help the treatment to take effect. Try to avoid touching your face as much as possible.  Be gentle when washing your face and applying make-up.

We recommend that you avoid eyebrow waxing/plucking and facials 2 weeks after your treatment.
